The Canes

The Two Canes which flank the RWM's chair are actually the Lodge Roll of Honour listing the Names of all of the Masters from 1873 till the present day. The silver rings which list the masters names on the first cane alternate thick - thin, while on the second cane all the rings are the same size.

The first cane (top) bears the following inscription, " Presented to Bro Wm Forrest PM St Mary's Coltness Lodge of Freemasons by the RWM Office-bearers and Brethren of the said Lodge as a mark of esteem and respect after he had served the Lodge for a second term as RWM. Sept 14 1874." Bro Forrest would seem to have immediately presented the Cane back to the Lodge to be used for its present purpose.

The second cane (bottom) bears the following inscription, "Presented by Bro. Tom Lumsden P.M. to Lodge St Mary Coltness Wishaw 31, Dec 1955".

There are three panels on the top of the cane and they bear the following information - Panel 1 (Bust) - Horation Viscount Nelson, Born Sep 1753, Died Oct 1805.
Panel 2 (Ship) - Foudroyant Nelson's Flagship, Commenced 1789, Launched 1798, Wrecked 1897, Blackpool.
Panel 3 (Blank Shield) - Oak and Copper from vessel after breaking up.
The top also carries a registration Number - 311490
